In a bizarre marriage ceremony, a man in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar got married to two women at the same time, in the same mandap. The marriage which took place on January 5, was attended by about 500 people and has since, become talk of the town. Both the girls — Haseena Baghel and Sundari Kashyap — used to like Chandu Maurya, a farmer and labourer of a remote village of Maoist-affected Bastar district, they married him in the same mandap in Tikara Lohnga village of Bastar. “I used to like both of them and they also liked me. I married both of the women consensually in front of all the villagers. However, family members of one of my wives did not come into our wedding function,” said Chandu. Hasina is 19-years-old while Sundari is 21-years-old, both the brides have passed their 12th standard examinations. This is first of the instance in Bastar district where such kind of marriage took place in front of all the villagers, and that too with grand celebrations.
