Unable to Afford A Smartphone For Online Class, College Student Dies By Suicide | Soochna

West Bengal: On Wednesday a 20-year-old student named Jayanti Bauli died by suicide, upset over unable to afford a smartphone to attend online classes in Jalpaiguri district, police said.

She was a B.A first-year student of Mal college, hung herself in her house located in the Saripukuri area in Dabripara village, the officer-in-charge of Kranti police outpost, Dilip Sarkar said. Also Read: 19-year-old committed suicide after her post did not get enough likes on social media

Her father named Aviram Bauli told the police that he works as a daily wager and somehow tries to manage both ends meet and pays the tuition fees of her daughter. Also Read: 21-year-old student ends life due to PUBG ban

Father, as he broke down, said, “for some time my daughter was wanting a smartphone for the online classes. She was upset because I couldn’t get one for her. But, if I had known that my daughter would take a step like this, I would have borrowed money from somewhere and bought her a phone.”

At last, police said that additional investigation will go on as per the norms.
