On the auspicious occasion of Durga Ashtami, Bengali actress-turned-politician MP Nusrat Jahan was seen dancing and playing ‘dhak’ (drum) in Kolkata during strict COVID-19 protocols, on Saturday. Also Read: Surat students design Garba costumes using PPE kits for Navratri
Amid low-key festivities, wearing the classic white saree with a red border, Trinamool Congress MP Nusrat visited the Suruchi Sangha pandal with her husband, Nikhil Jain. The couple offered prayers to the Goddess Durga and performed aarti. They both took blessings from the priest. In a two-minute video shared by ANI, after performing prayers Nusrat was seen dancing along with a group of women on the beats of the dhak and later she also tried her hand on the dhak to show off her drumming skills. She was soaked in the festive spirit.

Nusrat similarly celebrated the Durga Pooja, last year. On which, she was slammed for taking part in the celebrations. She was even asked to change her name and religion as she accused of defaming Islam and Muslims by her activities by a Muslim cleric.
Last year, she was also criticised for wearing vermillion after she got married to a businessman Nikhil Jain, who is a Hindu.
Last month, the politician had received death threats on social media for posting pictures on Instagram dressing up as Goddess Durga for endorsing a clothing line.
Last year in an interview, ignoring criticism, she said, “I’m God’s special child. I adore all festivals. I respect humanity, love and compassion more than anything.”
