Hate speech row: Top Facebook executive Ankhi Das files FIR for receiving death threats

Facebook India’s public policy executive, Ankhi Das has filed an FIR with the Cyber Cell Unit of Delhi Police for receiving death threats and sexually offensive comments.

Das was all over the internet after leading American Daily Wall Street Journal reported that she favored the ruling party BJP on Facebook over their hateful and offensive posts.

In this article titled Facebook Hate-Speech Rules Collide With Indian Politics,’ WSJ had stated that Das had told her staff members that punishing the policy-violating made by BJP would affect Facebook’s business in India. As India is Facebook’s largest user.

Earlier today Facebook issued a statement denying any favoritism in the ongoing controversy.

We prohibit hate speech and content that incites violence and we enforce these policies globally without regard to anyone’s political position/party affiliation. We’re making progress on enforcement and conduct regular audits of our process to ensure fairness and accuracy”, one of the Facebook spokespersons said.
