Though many Bollywood celebrities are known for their star status today, they weren’t born with a silver spoon. They earned all the fame and power solely by their determination and hard work with a pinch of good fortune.
Big B had no plans to make a career in Bollywood. He auditioned to be a radio announcer but was rejected by All India Radio because of his voice. Then he worked as an executive in a shipping firm Shaw Wallace. He even worked as a freight broker for a shipping company called Bird and Co.
Boman Irani had his fair share of struggle. He worked as a waiter and room service attendant at Taj Mahal Hotel before trying his luck in films. He also ran his ancestral bakery shop with his mother in Mumbai. He then took to photography and joined theatre before the movie ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.’ came his way.
Akshay Kumar went to Bangkok to study martial arts. There he served as a chef and waiter. After returning to his homeland he became a martial arts teacher. However, fate took him to a different direction altogether when one of his students helped him to get a modelling assignment for a small company.
Arshad did small jobs to make ends meet before he entered Bollywood. He was a door to door cosmetic salesman and also worked in a photo lab. Meanwhile, he had a keen interest in dancing and joined Akbar Sami’s dance group to realise his passion for dancing and started as a choreographer. John Abraham was a media planner for Enterprises-Nexus. He tried modelling and did quite well in it. In 2003, he got a major break in Bollywood with an erotic thriller Jism opposite Bipasha Basu.
Nawaz has seen hard days before making fame in the industry. He became a chemist to support his family of 8 siblings. Then, he moved to Delhi and developed an interest in theatre. To make ends meet he worked as a watchman for one and a half years. Later, he enrolled in National School of Drama and finally entered Bollywood.
Sonakshi began her career in Bollywood as a costume designer for the movie Mera Dil Leke Dekho in 2005. Later, she got the female lead role in Salman Khan’s movie Dabangg.
Ayushmann is a graduate in English Literature and a Master in Mass Communication from Punjab University. He started his career with a reality show MTV Roadies. He worked as an RJ with Big FM in Delhi and then later joined MTV as a VJ.
Parineeti wanted to become an investment banker in London. She completed her degree in Business Finance and Economics from Manchester Business School. Later, she interned at Yash Raj Films in their marketing and public relations team.
Ranveer worked as a copywriter at advertising agencies like Ogilvy and Mather and J. Walter Thompson before entering Bollywood. Later, he made his debut with Band Baaja Baarat and earned huge commercial success.
Bhumi was an assistant to casting director Shanoo Sharma before making a debut with Dum Laga Ke Haisha, which was a Yash Raj Film.
